Lake Windermere is just a 10-minute walk from the cottage, where you can embark on a lake cruise to Windermere and Ambleside, whilst enjoying glorious vistas of the surrounding area from a different perspective. Here, you will also find the Haverthwaite Steam Railway. Why not take a train ride down memory lane for an exclusive historical experience.
High Dam is a spectacular local walk, favoured by dog walkers, with a well-defined footpath that circles the beautiful dam. The wooded walk, easily accessible from the door of the cottage, is approximately 4 Km, climbs approximately 100 meters and will take around one hour to complete without stops. It has many picturesque picnic spots. There are a number of alternative approaches to High Dam - one of which extends the route to encompass Finsthwaite and Rusland Heights.
Also within a few minutes walk is Great Knott Wood which is a beautiful, ancient woodland site occupying a stunning spot on the south west shore of Lake Windermere. Great Knott Wood has a network of accessible footpaths. The wood is home to the iconic red squirrel and has a fascinating industrial history. Currently a mix of conifers and pockets of native broadleaves, the Woodland Trust is in the process of restoring this woodland to its former glory.
On the doorstep of Pinewood Cottage, you'll find the 18th Century Bobbin Mill, now a working museum having previously supplied the Lancashire and Yorkshire textile industry with wooden bobbins.

The attractive village of Cartmel is 15-minutes drive away. It’s home to the UK's smallest race course, and holds fantastic race days throughout the summer months. The ancient 12th-century priory is home to the nation’s favourite sticky toffee pudding. If you fancy fine dining, try the infamous L’enclume or sister restaurant Rogan and Co. (both have Michelin Stars) but do make sure you book in advance.
